The South Carolina State women’s volleyball team defeated Bethune-Cookman, 3-1, (25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22), in a MEAC match up in Dukes Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs (12-19, 5-2, MEAC) dominated the first two sets holding the Lady Wildcats (8-15, 3-4 MEAC) to under 20 points in the first two sets. Bethune-Cookman picked up its intensity both offensively and defensively which allowed them to take set three from SC State, 25-22. The Lady Bulldogs stayed poised after dropping the third set jumping out to a 6-3 lead in the fourth set and never looked back, eventually going on to take the fourth set 25-22 and the match 3-1.
Freshman Shabree Roberson and sophomore Jarne Gleaton led the Lady Bulldogs offensively with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Freshman Bria Brimmer put up 36 set assists with six service aces in the victory.
Chelle Ticeson and Shakhea Moore-Hagins led the Lady Wildcats in Kills and Digs with 10 and 10 respectively.
SC State will travel to Greensboro, NC this Sunday to face the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T in its MEAC Season Finale. The Lady Bulldogs will then travel to Florence, SC to face Francis Marion University on Wednesday, Nov. 5 before closing its 2008 regular season at home versus Winston-Salem State on Monday, Nov. 10.
GAME NOTES: SC State celebrated Senior Day...The Lady Bulldogs honored seniors Laura Waters-Brown and Gisela Kloss...Tonight’s victory marks the fourth straight conference victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
