Lady Hawks Too Much For Hornets, Win 3-0

With their win over Delaware State 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) on Sunday afternoon, the Lady Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore now post a 15-6 record and are undefeated in the conference, 2-0.

Christina Esteban? continued her solid play, nearly posting her ninth double- double of the season with a game-high 39 assists and nine digs.  Christine Edwards continued her double-digit kill streak with a game-high 17 kills and tied Esteban? and Zoe Bowens for the game-high two aces.  Leah Amundson led the defense again with a game-high 14 digs.

"We feel good," said Head Coach Don Metil.  "We wanted to send a message today that when we pass well and hit well we're a really hard team to beat."

The third set was tied six times before a kill by Edwards started a 10-2 run to put the Lady Hawks up 16-9.  UMES gave the Hornets three out of their last five points on errors, but capitalized off back to back Delaware State hitting errors to end the set 25-14.

For the Hornets, Cassandra Joyner had team highs in kills (10) and digs (6).  Sarah Wheatcroft finished with a team high 11 assists.

UMES is back on the road again, traveling to face the University of Delaware in Newark, Del. This will prove to be a true battle, with the Blue Hens (6-12) defeating Delaware State 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-12) earlier this season. The match is set for October 8 at 7 p.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center.
