NSU Downs North Carolina A&T, 3-1

Angie Clewis had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Norfolk State volleyball team to a 3-1 MEAC win over North Carolina A&T on Friday night at Echols Hall. The Spartans won the match 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 25-16, snapping their 10-game
losing streak.

In the first set, the two teams traded point-for-point most of the way, with NSU (3-16, 1-0 MEAC) going on a 4-0 run to end it. A kill by Yolanda Roberts capped the run and sealed the win for the Spartans.

NSU came out hot in the second set and led by as many as 11 points, 19-8 along the way. N.C. A&T was limited to just nine more points for the remainder of the set.

The Spartans jumped to a 9-7 lead in the third set, but found themselves trailing after four straight errors. They could get no closer then one, 16-15, on a service error by Stacy Malone. The Aggies won the set and looked
like they were going to make it interesting.

In the fourth and final set, NSU took control and led the entire way. The Aggies tried to find some momentum, but the Spartan offense, which hit .226 in set 4, was too much for them to handle.

Janae Mitchell led N.C. A&T with seven kills, eight digs and three service aces. Jordan Gray had a match-high 20 assists, but was hampered by nine ball handling errors.

Roberts had nine kills, 11 digs and three aces for NSU, while Breanna Allums had nine kills, eight digs and 1.5 blocks. Jourdan Ellison had a match-high 13 digs and Solange Honore had 18 assists.

The Spartans travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida A&M, the 2007 MEAC champions, at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
