Christina Esteban? and Christine Edwards continued to shine, as they helped Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's volleyball team top MEAC rival Morgan State 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-13) in their home opener and first  conference game of the season.

Esteban? finished with a game-high 33 assists.  Edwards was top on the attack with a game-high 14 kills.  Leah Amundson was also key for the Lady Hawk finishing with game-highs in aces (3) and digs (8).

UMES had their biggest lead of the match in the second set when a kill from Edwards put them up 22-10.  An attack error by the Bears put UMES on set point, but Morgan State rallied behind a kill by Rhyan Shy, and followed with an ace to stay alive.   Another Bear attack error ended the set 25-14.

The Lady Hawks took control early in the third set and never relinquished the lead.  Ahead 18-11 after a kill from Edwards, UMES went on a 7-2 run to end the match.

Shy led the Bears with six kills and Christa Rogers finished with a team high 12 assists.  Dina Beamon had a team-high seven digs.

UMES, now 14-6, will take on MEAC rival Delaware State at home on Sunday, October 5.  The much anticipated match-up will take place at 3 p.m. in the William P. Hytche Center.
