MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

University of Maryland Eastern Shore senior Christina Estebane’ was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Howard University freshman Gabrielle Martin earned Rookie of the Week accolades.  

 

Estebane’ (S, 5-6, Sr., El Paso, Texas) aided her team to a 2-0 mark and extended their home win streak to 16 matches.  Estebane’ hit 57-percent from the floor (8-of-14) and totaled 71 assists in the two victories.  In a win over Delaware State, the setter tallied 40 assists and hit 44-percent from the floor. She followed that performance with 31 assists, three aces and three digs in a win against Hampton. This is the fifth time this season that Estebane’ has earned Player of the Week accolades. 

 

Martin (MB, 5-11, Fr., Stockton, California) guided her team to a 1-1 mark last week while hitting 40-percent from the floor (21-of-47). The middle blocker led her team with four blocks, one ace and six digs in the victories.  This is the third time this season that Martin has garnered Rookie of the Week accolades. 

 

Other Top Performers:

Mianna Armstrong (HAM) recorded 15 kills, seven digs and two aces for the Lady Pirates.

Ivanti Bush (MSU) averaged 11 kills and 5.5 digs per match to help the Lady Bears to a 1-1 mark.

 

Gazelle D’Artois (HOW) totaled 21 kills and 17 digs in two matches for the Lady Bison last week.

 

Christine Edwards (UMES) was 11-of-14 from the floor (71-percent) in a 3-0 win over Hampton.

Martina Ferrari (DSU) aided the Lady Hornets to a 1-1 record last week with 44 assists and 19 digs. 

Christa Rogers (MSU) totaled 46 assists and 11 digs to help Morgan State to a 1-1 mark.

Sarah Wheatcroft (DSU) recorded a double-double of 20 assists and 11 digs in a win against Howard.
