MEAC Announces Volleyball Weekly Honors

Bethune-Cookman University sophomore Julie Gibson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. South Carolina State freshman Shabree Roberson earned Rookie of the Week accolades.  

 

Gibson (S, 5-11, So., Espanola, New Mexico) hit 40-percent from the floor (14-of-30) to lead Bethune-Cookman to a 2-0 mark last week. The setter tallied 85 assists along with two aces, two blocks (one solo) and 16 digs in the two victories.

 

Roberson (MB, 5-11, Fr., Pflugerville, Texas) aided her team to a 2-1 record last week, including two conference victories. The middle blocker recorded a double-double of 14 kills and 10 blocks to help the Lady Bulldogs snap Florida A&M’s 98-match conference win streak. She followed that performance with 14 kills and six blocks (three solo) in a win against North Carolina A&T.

 

Other Top Performers:

Breanna Allums (NSU) helped the Spartans to a 3-0 mark last week with a total of 36 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and four aces.

 

Christine Edwards (UMES) hit 40-percent from the floor (9-of-15) in a win over Morgan State.

 

Martina Ferrari (DSU) averaged 21 assists and hit 80-percent from the floor (4-of-5) in two victories for the Lady Hornets.


Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 16 digs against North Carolina A&T.

 

Caylin Woodward (UMES) totaled 14 kills, 26 digs and seven assists to help the Lady Hawks to a 2-1 mark last week.

 

Sarah Wheatcroft (DSU) hit 63-percent from the floor (8-of-11) and added 11 assists and five digs in a 3-0 win over Hampton.

 

Adriana Vazquez (HAM) recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory against Morgan State.
