DSU Extends Win Streak To Three

DSU Sophomore Sarah Wheatcroft tallied 8 kills, 11 assists, and five digs to lead the Hornets to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) win over Hampton.  With the win, Delaware State improves its MEAC record to 4-2. (10-9 overall)

 

DSU fell behind early in the first came but would come back due to costly errors by Hampton.  The Pirates racked up eight errors in the game.  (.000 attack percentage)

 

That would be as close as it would get for the Hornets as they took over the match from then on.  In the second game, DSU registered 14 kills and only three errors for a .478 attack percentage to lead them into the third game with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

 

More of the same came in that game, as the Hornets kept up the offensive pressure tallying a .333 attack percentage to take the game and the match.

 

Delaware State, for the match, racked up a consistent .306 attack percentage while Hampton’s attack percentage was halted at .000. (25 kills, 25 errors)

 

Individually, DSU setter Martina Ferrari recorded 15 assists to propel the offense, her fourth straight double-digit assists game.  Sophomore Erica Tajchman tallied eight kills for the fourth straight game as well.

 

Adriana Vasquez led the way for the Pirates with nine kills.

 

This game was the last for the 2008 Dig Pink event as the Delaware State Volleyball team raised over $1700 for Breast Cancer research.

 

DSU will look to continue their current winning streak when they face first-place UMES, October 24, at Memorial Hall.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
