Spartans Rally to Beat Bethune-Cookman 3-1

Freshman Breanna Allums had a double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs as the Norfolk State volleyball team defeated Bethune-Cookman 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Echols Hall. B-CU (6-11, 3-1 MEAC) won the first set 25-20, but NSU (4-19, 2-3) won the next three sets (25-19, 26-24,25-23 ) to take the match.

The Lady Wildcats came out hot in the first set and were able to hold off the Spartans for the first-set win. But the Spartans, who lost 3-0 to B-CU on Monday, were not going to give up without a fight.

NSU dominated the second set and did just enough in the third and fourth sets to win their second conference game of the season.

Danielle Goodman and Chelle Ticeson each had nine kills for B-CU. Goodman tallied 13 digs and two service aces, while Ticeson added five blocks (two solo). Five different Lady Wildcats totaled double-digit digs.

Junior Angie Clewis had 11 kills and 2.5 blocks (two solo) for NSU.  Junior Aurelia Isham had nine kills and 10 digs, while junior Solange Honore and freshman Jourdan Ellison had match highs of 22 assists and 14 digs, respectively.

NSU travels to Petersburg, Va. on Tuesday to take on Virginia State at 6 p.m.
