The Howard volleyball team defeated Hampton, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium in conference action. With the 25-21, 27-25, 29-21 win, the Lady Bison remained in tied for first place atop the MEAC with a 4-0 conference record, 9-13 overall, as the Pirates fell to 3-23 overall (1-3 MEAC).
Two players recorded double-digit kills for Howard as sophomore Gazelle d'Artois led all players in the match with 16 kills, while freshman Gabrielle Martin registered 13. Setter Grace DeMichelis had a match-high 41 assists to go along with four digs, while sophomore Nicole Brown had the most digs on the afternoon with 19.
Freshman Taylor Johnson recorded seven kills and a match-high five block assists in the winning effort. Collectively, Howard registered a .324 hitting percentage, led by Martin's .429, and kept Hampton to a .183 mark.
For the Pirates, Adriana Vazquez led the team with 14 kills while Aaryn Harrison chipped in 10. Lihi Elkayam added a team-high 39 assists.
Up next for the Howard volleyball team is a home match against the Eagles of North Carolina Central on Tuesday, Oct. 14. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
