MSU Volleyball Falls to Delaware State, 3-0

Erica Tajchman notched a double-double with team highs in kills (12) and digs (12) and Cassandra Joyner added 10 kills to lead visiting Delaware State to a 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-21) sweep of Morgan State in a MEAC volleyball match on Sunday afternoon at Hill Field House.

                                        

The Lady Hornets’ (8-9, 2-2 MEAC) Sarah Wheatcroft and Martina Ferrari shared the duties at setter, finishing with 20 and 13 assists apiece. Joyner also accounted for three of Delaware State’s six service aces.

 

Morgan State’s Ivanti Bush totaled a match-high 13 kills and Kierra Riley and Camille Coleman each added six kills, but it wasn’t enough for the Lady Bears who fell to 2-19 overall, 1-3 in MEAC action. Christa Rogers finished with a match-high 26 assists and Dina Beamon finished with a match-high 18 digs in a losing effort.

 

The Lady Bears, who held a slim 38-37 advantage in kills for the match, totaled a set high 14 kills in the second set for a hitting percentage of .324, while Delaware State collected 17 kills in the second set and had a hitting percentage of .345 in the opening set.

 

Morgan State returns to action on Friday, Oct. 17, when it travels to Hampton, Va., to take on the Lady Pirates of Hampton in a MEAC match-up at 6 p.m. at Holland Hall.
