The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-15) couldn’t find an answer for South Carolina State (7-17) as the Lady Rams took a 3-0 loss in Orangeburg, S.C. Sunday afternoon. The steadily improving WSSU offense was solid in the match recording only 16 errors in 77 total attacks, but the Lady Rams’ defense couldn’t stand up to the South Carolina State offense, allowing 42 kills in the match.
The Lady Rams competed hard in all three sets, falling by scores of 20-25, 16-25, and 21-25. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled 25 kills in the match with junior hitter Annika Barnwell leading the way with a team-high eight kills in the loss. She had a solid day overall with a team-high six digs as well. WSSU freshman Alexandria Brown coordinated the Lady Rams’ attack with 16 assists in the match.
The loss was the sixth in a row for the Lady Rams and the team’s third straight road loss. The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday when the team hosts the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats in a home match at Whitaker Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
