Norfolk State guard Tony Murphy was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. South Carolina State’s Carrio Bennet was named the Rookie of the Week while Morgan State’s Boubacar Coly was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Murphy (G, 6-4, 220, Sr., Paterson, NJ) averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists to help the Spartans finish 2-0 in conference play last week. Against Maryland E. Shore Murphy scored 20 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. He posted 17 points in 26 minutes against the South Carolina State Bulldogs, including 14 in the first half.
Cario Bennett (G, 6-1, 155, Greenville, SC) scored nine of his 11 points in the closing minutes, including back-to-back 3-pointers to help the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind 60-58 win over Howard Monday night. He scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shoot in a 97-71 loss the NSU Spartans. In two games Bennett averaged 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. This is Bennett second Rookie of the Week honor.
Coly (C, 6-9, 220, Sr., Ziguinchor, Senegal) has dominated the Defensive Player of the Week honor earning his fifth straight as he helped the Bears to a 2-0 finish last week. Against Bethune-Cookman, Coly recorded 11 rebounds and four blocks. He followed that game with seven rebounds and two blocks against Howard. The league’s rebound and shot blocking leader, Coly currently ranks 9th in rebounds and 19th in blocked shots in the nation.

Roy Bright (DSU) averaged 20 points and six rebounds to help the Hornets finish 1-1 last week.
John Holmes (BCU) recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds while dishing out five assists against Delaware State.
Jimmy Hudson (BCU) posted 21 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Wildcats loss to the DSU Hornets.
Steven Rush (NCAT) averaged 18 points, shooting 42-percent (11-of-26) from the field and 40-percent (8-of-20) from 3-point range as the Aggies defeated Delaware State and Winston-Salem State last week.
Jamar Smith (MSU) averaged 18 points and seven rebounds to help the Bears finish 2-0 in conference play.
Lamar Twitty (FAMU) averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the Rattlers finished 2-0 with wins over Coppin State and Maryland E. Shore.
