MEAC ANNOUNCES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

 Coppin State’s Shalamar Oakley was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Demetria Frank earned Rookie of the Week honors, while North Carolina A&T’s Ta’Wuana Cook was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Oakley (Guard, 5-6, Sr., Camden, New Jersey) led Coppin State to a 2-0 week while averaging 24.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Oakley shot 80-percent from the field on 20-of-25 shooting and was perfect (2-of-2) from behind the arc. In a win over Florida A&M, she dished out seven assists with two steals. Oakley poured in 24 points against Hampton as the Lady Eagles handed the Lady Pirates their first conference loss of the season at the same time ending their five-game win streak.

Frank (Guard, 5-9, Fr., Miami, Florida) averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Wildcats. She shot 41-percent from the field (9-of-22) and was a perfect (3-of-3) in made 3-pointers. Frank posted the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 13 rebounds against Morgan State. In a loss to Delaware State, she recorded 16 points, six rebounds and dished out five assists. This is the second time this season that Frank has won Rookie of the Week accolades.

Cook (Guard, 5-8, So., Fayetteville, North Carolina) recorded a career-high eight steals in a non-conference win over Winston-Salem State. Cook pulled down three defensive rebounds against the Lady Rams and helped North Carolina A&T force 34 Winston-Salem State turnovers.

Other Top Performers:

Corin Adams (MSU) averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 6.0 steals in two victories for the Lady Bears last week.

Sarah Bolden (B-CU) was 4-of-8 from the field en route to 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in a loss to Delaware State.

Theresa Davis (MSU) was just shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds in a 91-48 win over the Howard Lady Bison.

Patience Figgins (SCSU) averaged 8.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two wins for the Lady Bulldogs.

Natasha Ferguson (B-CU) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a 51-71 loss to Delaware State.

Stephanie Foster (FAMU) averaged 16 points and four rebounds for the Lady Rattlers.

Sophilia Hipps (SCSU) scored 22 points, on 7-of-14 shooting, in a 74-58 win over Norfolk State.

April McBride (UMES) posted 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-50 win over Florida A&M.

Katreem Palmer (DSU) recorded season-highs with four assists and four steals in a win over Bethune-Cookman.

Chena Parker (UMES) tallied 12 points and nine rebounds while shooting 5-of-6 from the field in an 88-65 win over Norfolk State.

Tamara Rogers (MSU) recorded 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting against Howard.

Tiffany Reid (UMES) averaged 14 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two victories last week.

Lamona Smalley (NCAT) tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 64-57 win over Delaware State.
