Morgan State Hands Howard Third Straight Defeat

Morgan State jumped out to a big lead and was never threatened as the Lady Bears rolled over Howard, 91-48 in a MEAC game at Burr Gymnasium.

The loss was the third straight for Howard (2-15 overall, 2-3 in the MEAC) while Morgan State improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the MEAC.

The Lady Bears established their dominance early, bolting out to an 11-2 lead in the first six minutes and then used a 25-3 run midway through the first half to blow the game wide open.

Tamara Rogers (13 points) and reserve Jasmine Sellers (12 points, all coming in the first half) combined for 25 points to lead the Lady Bears, who out-rebounded the hosts, 32-16, including 16 off the offensive glass.

Howard aided Morgan State’s cause by committing 16 first half turnovers and missing 19 of 26 shots from the field.

Despite holding an insurmountable 27-point halftime advantage, the Lady Bears refused to let up, dominating the Lady Bison in all phases of the game. Morgan State had a 44-22 advantage in the paint, scored 31 points off 29 turnovers and got 35 points from its bench.

Senior guard Shannon Carlisle led Howard with 16 points, senior guard Reyna Gross tallied 12 and junior forward Tamaya Daniels, who came off the bench, recorded a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Rogers led all scorers with 17. Corin Adams scored 16, Theresa Davis had 11 and Sellers finished with 12 off the bench.

GAME NOTES: Howard has given up an average of 94 points the past two games while averaging only 47...all 11 Morgan State players who played, scored...Carlisle and Gross combined for 15 turnovers...Carlisle did however, add to her record for career totals with three more steals.

NEXT UP: Morgan State will try to stay within striking distance of conference leaders North Carolina A&T and Hampton when it travels to Hampton, VA to take on the Lady Pirates of Hampton on Monday at 5:30 pm. Howard will try to snap its current three-game losing streak when it hosts Coppin State on Monday at 9;30 pm in Burr Gymnasium. That game will be broadcast by ESPNU on a tape delay basis.
