MEAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

 Hampton’s Rachel Butler was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Quanneisha Perry earned Rookie of the Week honors while North Carolina A&T’s Lamona Smalley was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Butler (Guard, 5-10, Sr., Dallas, Texas) was just shy of averaging a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds in wins over Florida A&M and South Carolina State last week. Butler recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in the 80-72 victory over the Lady Rattlers. Against South Carolina State, Butler posted her second double-double of the season (20 points,10 rebounds) to extend the Lady Pirates unbeaten streak in MEAC play this season.

Perry (Forward, 5-10, Fr., Decatur, Georgia) shot 44-percent from the field on 7-of-16 shooting and scored 16 points and 23 rebounds in MEAC wins against Florida A&M and South Carolina State. In the win over Florida A&M, Perry posted eight points and 13 rebounds. She followed with eight points and 10 rebounds in a 71-59 victory over South Carolina State. This is the third time this season that Perry has won Rookie of the Week accolades.

Smalley (Forward, 6-0, So., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) tallied 23 rebounds (17 defensive) along with three blocks and three steals in two Lady Aggies wins over Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore. Smalley pulled down nine rebounds against Coppin State to help the Lady Aggies post a victory over the Lady Eagles for the first time in four years. She followed with 14 rebounds (11 defensive) in a 72-59 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Other Top Performers:

Corin Adams (MSU) averaged 19 points, six rebounds and three steals to help the Lady Bears to a 2-0 mark last week.

Amber Bland (NCAT) led the Lady Aggies in two victories with 19 points against Coppin State and 24 points in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Sarah Bolden (B-CU) averaged 7.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two losses last week.

Zykia Brown (How) came of the bench to score 10 points for the Lady Bison in a 79-70 win over Bethune-Cookman.

Shannon Carlisle (How) scored a team-high 21 points against Bethune-Cookman.

Tamaya Daniels (How) averaged a double-double of 12.5 points and 10 rebounds to help the Lady Bison to a 1-1 mark last week.

Brittany Dodson (MSU) scored 13 points, including 6-of-7 from the free-throw line in two wins for the Lady Bears.

Patience Figgins (SCSU) was just shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds in a 65-63 win over Maryland Eastern Shore.

Natasha Ferguson (B-CU) recorded 23 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against Howard.

Tiffany Gadsden (NSU) was just shy of a double-double with nine points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in a loss to Morgan State.

Joslyne Jackson (FAMU) posted 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field in a loss to Hampton.

April McBride (UMES) set a career-high of 27 points in a 65-63 loss to South Carolina State.

Jenell Moore (SCSU) recorded double-doubles in back-to-back games for the Lady Bulldogs.

Casey Morton (UMES) averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Hawks.

Raychele Payne (NSU) recorded 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in an 87-54 loss to Morgan State.

Tiffany Reid (UMES) tallied 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals, and one block in a 65-63 loss to South Carolina State.

Jasmine Sellers (MSU) posted a career-high 17 points, including five three-pointers against Florida A&M.

Rashida Suber (CSU) recorded 10 points in a 61-46 win over Bethune-Cookman to become Coppin State’s career scoring leader with 1,543 total points.

Denise Tate (FAMU) averaged 8.5 rebounds in two games for the Lady Rattlers.

Chinyere Ukoh (Ham) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in an 80-72 win over Florida A&M.
