Suber Becomes Eagles Career Scoring Leader In Victory Over B-CU

Senior Rashida Suber scored 10 points and became Coppin State's all-time leading scorer as the Eagles defeated Bethune-Cookman 61-46 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday in the Coppin Center.

Fittingly enough, it came when Suber, who is also Coppin State's career leader in steals, recorded a steal and streaked the length of the floor for a layup with 17:34 to play in the first period.

Suber now has 1,543 career points, which eclipses the previous record of 1,537 points held by Kiesha Brooks who played at Coppin State during the 1999-2001 seasons.

Suber's backcourt mate Shalamar Oakley led Coppin State with 19 points, while Jennifer Martin had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Danielle Anders added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Coppin State (7-10, 2-2 MEAC) limited Bethune-Cookman to 28.3 percent shooting for the game, including 21.7 percent in the first half.

The Eagles extended their current winning streak against the Wildcats to eight games.

Bethune-Cookman (3-12, 0-4 MEAC) was led by Keturah Newkirk who had 14 points, while Natasha Ferguson scored 10.

The Eagles held a 20-11 lead at the 7:53 mark of the first half before the Wildcats rallied.

Two free throws and a layup by Demetria Frank cut the Coppin State lead to 20-16 with 6:39 to play in the first half.

The Eagles then closed the first half on an 11-1 run keyed by six points from Oakley and three points from Anders to take a 31-17 lead into the intermission.

Bethune-Cookman never cut the margin under double digits in the second half.
