Morgan State’s Jamar Smith was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Brandon Monroe of Norfolk State was named the Rookie of the Week while Morgan State’s Boubacar Coly earned Defensive Player of the Week for the third week in a row.
Smith (G, 6-3, 210, Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored 15 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as Morgan State defeated North Carolina A&T 87-66. Smith fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. He displayed an impressive shooting performance of 11-of-18 baskets from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. This is Smith’s second straight Player of the Week honor.
Monroe (F, 6-7, 215, So., Raeford, NC) averaged 7.5 points and seven rebounds last week to help the Spartans extend their win streak to three games. He shot 44-percent from the floor while averaging two blocks per outing. Against North Carolina Central he scored a career-high 11 points shooting 5-of-6 from the field including two blocked shots and two steals.
Coly (C, 6-8, 220, Sr., Ziguinchor, Senegal) earned his third consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor by recording nine rebounds, five on the defensive end, with two blocks and two steals in an 87-66 win over North Carolina A&T. He was also impressive offensively with 16 points including 7-of-7 from the field.

Thomas Coleman (NCAT) was 5-of-6 from the field with 11 points in a loss to Morgan State
Michael Freeman (Ham) connected on 6-of-6 baskets for 15 points and eight rebounds against Bethune-Cookman.
John Holmes (B-CU) averaged 15.5 points and four rebounds in two games last week for the Wildcats.
Leslie Robinson (FAMU) recorded 17 points in a 57-52 victory over Howard.
Jason Johnson (SCSU) earned his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Tony Murphy (NSU) averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 assists in two wins last week for the Spartans.
Trevor Welcher (DSU) posted 15 points against South Carolina State.
Arian Woodard (Ham) scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the Pirates conference win over B-CU.
