Cheruiyot, Chichester Pace Spartans' Cross Country Teams

Hillary Cheruiyot and Jennifer Chichester both earned top-10 finishes for the NSU men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, at separate meets on Saturday morning.

Cheruiyot finished fifth overall to pace the NSU men at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Earlysville, Va. He covered the 5-mile course in 25:08.70. Jonathan Soimo was next for NSU, finishing 22nd in 26:00.50.

Keenan Harris and Liam Arocho placed 66th and 77th, respectively, and both run faster times than they did in the season-opener last week at UMES. Harris ran 27:59.90 and Arocho 29:11.70.

The Spartans had just four runners complete the scorecourse and thus did not factor in the final team standings.

Chichester, led the NSU women for the second consecutive week by placing 10th overall (19:27) in the 3.1-mile Towson Invitational in Cockeysville, Md. Tia Miles was next for the Spartan women, placing 35th in 20:57.

NSU placed 10th out of 13 teams.

The NSU men have off until Sept. 29 at William & Mary's Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge. The Spartan women are off until Sept. 22 at UMES's Cappy Anderson Invitational.
