DSU's Terrell Competes in U.S. Women's Open

DSU head bowling coach Kim Terrell recently competed in the U.S. Women’s Open, a premier event featuring the best women bowlers in the world.

Prior to joining the DSU coaching staff, Terrell was an accomplished bowler from Antioch, CA. As one of the 16 quarterfinalists, Terrell advanced to the televised portion of the event, and will appear in the five-part series on ESPN that will air on five consecutive Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m. Eastern beginning September 16. Coach Terrell is scheduled to be a part of the September 16 telecast.

The 16 quarterfinalists were seeded into a single-elimination bracket. Four players will appear on each of the first four telecasts and battle for a spot in the live televised final, scheduled for Sunday, October 14 at 1 p.m.

The U.S. Women’s Open qualifying was held August 13-16 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada, and featured 132 competitors who endured 32 games of qualifying on four different PBA Experience lane conditions, the same conditions seen on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour.

According to Matt Cannizzaro of the USBC, there have been very few opportunities for women bowlers since the Professional Women’s Bowling Association ceased operation in 2003, so for them to be back on ESPN is a major step toward possibly rebuilding the PWBA.
