Volleyball 9/30/2007 4:00:00 AM MEAC Media Relations LADY HAWKS' JOHNSON NAMED MVP OF UMES VB TOURNEY Whitney Johnson pounded out 65 kills on 139 swings, hitting .334 with just 19 errors to earn the title of Most Valuable Performer of the 2007 UMES Comfort Inn Classic. The All-Tournament Team, voted on by the coaches of the tournament, also put Caylin Woodward and Chrsitina Estebane’ on the squad. Johnson led her Hawks to a 4-0 record and the tournament title. Those four wins improved the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) to 14-3 (3-0 MEAC) on the year and was their 12th straight wins. The only losses to date have come on neutral courts, making UMES undefeated at home and on the road. Johnson also added 18 digs, four solo blocks and three block assists on the weekend. This is Johnson’s second tournament MVP this season. Woodward had 37 kills on 73 attacks with just five errors, giving her an impressive .447 attack percentage. She added 14 assists, 14 service aces, 28 digs and six block assists. Estebane’ ran the Hawk offense well, notching 17 kills with just a single error. She hit .473 on 38 swings. The junior setter had 146 assists, 12 aces, 38 digs and three block assists.
