Whitney Johnson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Delaware State University’s Erica Tajchman was named Rookie of the
Week.
Johnson (6-3, So., Prince Frederick, Maryland) tallied 100 kills and 31
digs in four matches to help the Lady Hawks extend their current match
win streak to seven. Johnson recorded a career-high 30 kills in a win
over Providence and was named the MVP of the Sacred Heart Tournament.
For the week, the outside hitter was 100-of-179 while averaging a .441
hitting percentage. This is the second time this season that Johnson
has earned Player of the Week honors.
Tajchman (6-0, Fr., Omaha, Nebraska) led the Lady Hornets to their
first victory of the season with 21 kills and 11 digs, while averaging
a .463 hitting percentage. The outside hitter added one block, one
assist and one ace in the win.
Other Top Performers:
Ayana Dyette (DSU) recorded 22 kills and 12 digs in a win over LaSalle.
Jarne Gleaton (SCSU) recorded back-to-back double digit kill performances against Hampton (15) and North Carolina Central (10).
Iva Lakic (FAMU) recorded 27 kills, a career-high six aces and nine digs in a win over Mercer.
Morgan Maxwell (How) led Howard to their first victory of the season
with 21 kills in a non-conference game against Coppin State.
Jeniqua Moran (MSU) averaged 15.3 kills and six digs per match last weekend for the Lady Bears.
Yolanda Roberts (NSU) led the Spartans to a 2-2 mark at the Lady Rams
Invitational with double-doubles in kills and digs against Savannah
State and Hampton.
