Volleyball 9/22/2007 4:00:00 AM MEAC Media Relations LADY BISON TOP COPPIN STATE FOR FIRST WIN The Howard volleyball team got its first victory of the season as they swept Coppin State 3-0 (30-28, 30-19, 30-28) Saturday afternoon on the final day of the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash Invitational. Senior Morgan Maxwell paced the Lady Bison with 21 kills and a .349 hitting percentage (21-6-43). Junior Janel James added a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs while freshman Gazelle d’Artois chipped in with 41 set-assists and 12 digs. Freshman Keri Partridge and junior Elyssa Lee contributed six kills each. The Lady Eagles got 16 kills from Indira Laurencin. Danyel Davis and Brittany Arvin added double-digit dig totals with 14 and 10 while Lauren Lacey finished with 24 set-assists. Howard went 1-2 in the two-day tournament, losing matches to the host Red Flash (3-0: 30-25, 30-16, 30-24) and Robert Morris (3-0: 30-20, 30-14, 30-19). Maxwell was named to the All-Tournament team after totaling 32 kills and 22 digs in three matches. The Lady Bison (1-15) return to action on Sept. 26 when they open MEAC play against Hampton at the Convocation Center.
