Hampton University freshman Jahlisa Smith and Howard University sophomore Thurman Sanders were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cross Country Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Smith (Fr., Plainfield, New Jersey) finished sixth out of 73 runners at the Adidas Raleigh Cross Country Invite, hosted by North Carolina State University. Smith’s time of 19:21.00 on the 5K course helped her team to a third place finish out of eight teams.
Sanders (So., Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the Bison with a time of 27:56.4 which earned him a tenth place finish in the 8K run at the James Madison Open. As a team, the Bison averaged a time of 29:15.18 and finished third overall out of the nine competing teams.
Other Top Performers:Jasmin Branch (Ham) finished among the top ten at the Adidas Raleigh Cross Country Invitational in 19:53.00.
Ashley Hodges (How) led the Lady Bison to a fifth place finish with a time of 20:44.1 at the James Madison Open.
Rashad Burnett (NCAT) was the Aggies’ top finisher in the 5K men’s run at the Adidas Raleigh Cross Country Invitational in 16.28.00.
Anthony Littlejohn (CSU) finished first for the Eagles and 18th overall in 27:21.00 at the Delaware Invitational.
