Volleyball 9/19/2007 4:00:00 AM MEAC Media Relations LADY HORNETS TOP LASALLE FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON The Delaware State volleyball team won the last three games to earn a 3-1 victory over La Salle in Memorial Hall Tuesday evening. The Hornets won for the first time in 15 matches this season, while the Explorers fell to 6-9. Ayana Dyette had 22 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Erica Tajchman had a career-high 21 kills to lead the Hornets. Five Delaware State players reached double figures in digs, led by Laura Huculak’s 17. Tajchman and Sarah Wheatcroft each collected 11 digs. The Hornets had a season high 65 digs in the contest. Huculak also had a career high 59 assists. Stephanie Owen and Rachel Stemper led La Salle with 15 kills each. Delaware State had a .333 attack percentage (75 kills/26 errors/147 attempts), compared to .193 for La Salle (56/25/161). The Explorers led by as many as seven points in game one before settling for a 30-26 win. In game two, Delaware State led 14-8 before La Salle rallied to pull ahead 25-24. There were eight ties before consecutive kills by Dyette and Wheatcroft lifted the Hornets to a 34-32 win in the second game. Delaware State led from start to finish in game three. The Hornets built a 26-14 lead on a kill by Joyner and coasted to a 30-21 win to take a 2-1 lead in the contest. Delaware State closed out the match with a 30-25 win in game four. La Salle led 17-16 before the Hornets scored six straight points to pull ahead for good. Delaware State returns to action on Sep. 26 against Lafayette in Memorial Hall.
