University of Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore
Caylin Woodward was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Florida A&M University’s Jovana Blazeski was named Rookie of the
Week for the second straight week.
Woodward (6-0, So., Garden Grove, California)
recorded a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs along with five aces
to lead the Lady Hawks to a conference win over Morgan State. Woodward
was 15-of-30 while averaging a .467 hitting percentage with only one
error. The win snapped a four-match losing streak against the Lady
Bears for UMES and was the first conference opener defeat for Morgan
State in 16 years.
Blazeski (6-2, Fr., Belgrade, Serbia) averaged a
double-double of 22 kills and 13.3 digs in three matches played at last
weekend’s Arizona State Tournament. Blazeski earned all-tournament
honors and led her team in kills against Arizona State (23) and
Virginia Commonwealth (18).
Other Top Performers:
Kaiyana Johnson (B-CU) finished 4-of-6 (.667) in a victory against Savannah State.
Iva Lakic (FAMU) recorded 27 kills and two aces against Tulane.
Indira Laurencin (CSU) led Coppin State to their first win of the season with 21 kills and 11 digs against St. Francis (N.Y.).
Ebonie Vincent (Ham) posted 21 kills in a win over South Carolina State.
