Former Hampton Pirate Devin Green Signs Contract With Miami Heat

The Miami HEAT announced that they have signed former Hampton standout guard Devin Green. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Green, who has signed a free agent contract with Miami, spent the 2006-07 with three squads. He played in eight preseason games, with two starts, for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.10 steals in 12.8 minutes per game. He was waived by the Lakers on October 30, 2006, and played in 14 games (14 starts) for the L.A. D-Fenders of the NBA Development League. While with the D-Fenders, he averaged 19.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.50 steals in 38.4 minutes per game.

Mid-way through the 2006-07 season, he left for the German team RheinEnergie K?ln, where he helped the team win the German National Cup and led them to the German national championship semi-finals.

During the 2005-06 season, Green played in 27 games for the L.A. Lakers, totaling 25 points, 24 rebounds and 135 minutes.

The 6’7”, 210-pound guard Hampton University product also played for the Lakers 2006 Summer-Pro League team, where he averaged 14.4 points per game while also handing out 2.0 assists.

A four-year letterman for the Pirates, the 6-foot-7 Green made an immediate impact in his first year at Hampton, earning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors. He went on to finish his career as a two-time All-MEAC performer. He left Hampton ranking fourth all-time in scoring (1,757), second in steals (168), fifth in three-point field goals made (148) and free throws made (385).
