PIRATES TO FACE VIRGINIA IN NCAA TENNIS FIRST ROUND

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- Hampton men's tennis team will face the University of Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. The Cavaliers are the fourth seed, while the Pirates (15-8) are the No.16 seed. Games will begin on Friday, May 11 at the Snyder Tennis Center.

Coach Dr. Robert Screen directed the Pirates, made up of one sophomore, two juniors and five seniors to six Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference titles in twelve seasons. Dr. Screen is the most successful African-American tennis coach in the history of the game after posting his 1000th career victory on March 31st.

The Cavaliers are ranked No. 3 in the latest ITA rankings and have a 26-3 record on the season. Virginia earned the ACC's automatic bid to the tournament by winning the ACC Tournament two weeks ago. Hampton received the automatic bid for winning the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
The first round matches will be played on Friday, May 11 and the second round match will be played on Saturday, May 12.
