Lady Hornets Suffer Second Half Collapse In Loss To Mizzou

 Delaware State led by as many as 11 in the second half before falling to Missouri 55-50 in the consolation game of the Marriot Cavalier Classic on Saturday. The Lady Hornets dropped their sixth straight to fall to 3-9 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 7-6. The contest featured six ties and 12 lead changes.

Delaware State opened up the biggest lead of the game, 44-33, when Katreem Palmer nailed a jumper with 10:02 left to play. Missouri fought back, and took its first second half lead, 51-50, on two free throws by Jessra Johnson with 1:10 remaining. After a missed shot by the Lady Hornets, the Tigers stretched their lead to 53-50 on a lay up by Shakara Jones with 25 seconds left. Palmer missed a potential game-tying three-point shot with 12 seconds remaining.

Missouri’s Amanda Herman sealed the win with two free throws five seconds later. Delaware State shot 21.4% in the second half, and was outscored 30-20 in the final 20 minutes. The Lady Hornets were 13-for-21 from the field, including three-of-four from three-point territory, in the first half (61.9%). DSU led 30-25 at the break. Johnson was high scorer for Missouri with 20 points. She also led all players with 11 rebounds. Amanda Hanneman added 14 points for the Tigers.

Raquel Collier was the only Delaware State player in double figures with 10 points. Selena Galloway and Sade Bowen added seven points each for the Lady Hornets. Delaware State returns to action Jan. 5 at the home against St. Augustine’s. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
