MEAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Morgan State guard Reggie Holmes was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. South Carolina State’s Carrio Bennett was named the Rookie of the Week while Maryland Eastern Shore’s Denzel Jackson was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Holmes (G, 6-4, 180, So., Baltimore, Md.) averaged 23 points and 7.5 rebounds as he led the Bears to a 1-1 mark last week. Against LaSalle, Holmes fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. He also shot 50-percent from three-point range and dished out two assists in the team’s winning effort. Against Maryland he recorded 20 points and six rebounds along with three steals.

Bennett (G, 6-1, 155, Fr., Piedmont, SC) averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists in two non-conference match ups last week. His top performance was against the Savannah State Tigers where he knocked down 16 baskets and pulled down seven rebounds. He shot impressively from the field against Virginia Military Institute with 5-of-6 baskets, 4-of-5 from three-point range, for 14 points.

Jackson (F, 6-6, 190, Fr., Philadelphia, Pa.) collected 20 total rebounds in two non-conference games last week. Against George Washington, Jackson grabbed 11 rebounds, seven defensive, including one steal. He also pulled down seven defensive rebounds, nine total, in the Hawks match up against Old Dominion. Jackson leads the Hawks in rebounds and ranks third in the MEAC in steals per game (2.0).

Other Top Performers:

Boubacar Coly (MSU) recorded 24 points and 16 rebounds to aid the Bears to a 1-1 mark last week.

Marc Davis (UMES) registered 10 points in non-conference match ups against George Washington and Old Dominion.

Jason Flagler (SCSU) averaged 10.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two S.C. State games last week.

Jimmy Hudson (BCU) collected 20 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field, as the Wildcats defeated Stetson, 52-51.

Larry Jackson (FAMU) finished with 14 points and five rebounds against in-state rival Florida.

Kyle Riley (HOW) scored 20 points and eight rebounds in two games last week for the Bison.

Oliver Prince (FAMU) shot 50-percent from the field (4-of-8) with 14 points against Florida.
