MEAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

 Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore April McBride was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. Teammate Casey Morton was named Rookie of the Week while Norfolk State’s Tiffany Gadsden and Florida A&M’s Denise Tate earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

McBride (Forward, 6-1, Jr., New Rochelle, New York) led the Lady Hawks to two non-conference victories while shooting 50-percent (10-of-20) from the field. The sophomore forward tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and six steals in a win over Western Michigan. She followed with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Delaware.

Morton (Guard, 5-9, Fr., Mardela Springs, Maryland) averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 blocks and 5.0 assists while shooting 50-percent from the floor (11-of-22) and 60-percent from beyond the arc (6-of-10) in two games for the Lady Hawks last week. Morton led her team in scoring in both wins with 21 points against Western Michigan and 14 points against Delaware.

Gadsden (Forward/Center, 6-2, So., Columbia, South Carolina) recorded a game-high eight blocks and a team-high 14 rebounds (10 defensive) against Southern. Gadsden averaged nine rebounds, 4.5 blocks, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists for the Spartans last week at the Comcast Lobo Shootout hosted by New Mexico.

Tate (Forward/Center, 6-1, Jr., Cleveland, Ohio) pulled down 32 rebounds (25 defensive), three assists, and five steals to help the Lady Rattlers to a 2-1 mark last week. Tate recorded a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds (11 defensive) in a victory over Jacksonville.

Other Top Performers:

Corin Adams (MSU) scored a game-high 16 points along with nine assists and three steals against American, extending Morgan State’s win streak to three games.

Brittany Dodson (MSU) recorded 10 points, six rebounds and six assists against American.

Stephanie Foster (FAMU) averaged 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Lady Rattlers.

Keturah Newkirk (BCU) helped the Lady Wildcats to their first road win of the season with 15 points and four rebounds against Benedict.

Danelle Tate (NSU) led her team in scoring with 11.5 points in two games for the Spartans last week.

Kristi Veltkamp (UMES) recorded a season-high four blocks against Western Michigan.
