Whitney Johnson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Norfolk State’s Heather Quinn was named Rookie of the Week.
Johnson (6-3, So., Prince Frederick, Maryland) averaged 18.5 kills and
four digs in two matches to lead the Lady Hawks to their 20th straight
win to close out regular season play. Johnson was 12-of-21 and hit .476
from the floor against Hampton. She followed with 25 kills and three
solo blocks while hitting .333 from the floor in a non-conference win
over North Carolina Central. This is the fifth time this season that
Johnson has earned Player of the Week accolades.
Quinn (6-2, Fr., Conyers, Georgia) recorded double-digit kills in both
of the Spartans matches last week. The middle hitter posted 11 kills,
three digs and 1.5 blocks against North Carolina A&T. Quinn
recorded a double-double of 12 kills and a season-high 12 digs against
Bethune-Cookman.
Other Top Performers:
Jovana Blazeski (FAMU) averaged 14.5 kills and 17 digs to help the Lady Rattlers to a 1-1 mark last week.
Shardonay Blueford (NSU) led the Spartans with career-highs of 16 kills and 18 digs in a conference win over Bethune-Cookman.
Danielle Goodrum (B-CU) averaged 9.6 kills and 8.6 digs in three matches last week.
Aundia Gray (NCAT) averaged 4.1 kills per game to help the Lady Aggies finish 2-1 including a 2-0 mark in MEAC play last week.
Kaiyana Johnson (B-CU) tallied 22 kills, seven digs and three aces to help the Lady Wildcats to a 1-2 record last week.
Cassandra Joyner (DSU) averaged 12.5 kills and 5.5 digs per match in two wins for the Lady Hornets.
Iva Lakic (FAMU) tallied 26 kills and 11 digs in a non-conference win over Mercer.
Jeniqua Moran (MSU) led her team with 16 kills and 12 digs against North Carolina Central.
Shaylin Sommer (UMES) tallied three kills, two digs and two aces to
help the Lady Hawks record their 20th consecutive win of the season.
Sarah Wheatcroft (DSU) totaled 13 kills, 40 assists, three aces and six digs to help the Lady Hornets to a 2-0 mark last week.
