Florida A&M fans, alumni and team celebrated Homecoming with a 24-21 come-from-behind win over North Carolina A&T Saturday afternoon at Bragg Memorial Stadium. Wesley Taylor’s nailed a 33-yard field goal with 45 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
FAMU snapped their four game losing streak, while the Aggies saw their losing streak grow to 26 games.
A Taylor 37-yard field goal put the Rattlers up 3-0 with 2:03 left to go in the first, then FAMU would then increase their lead to 11-0, on a 30-yard TD pass by Eddie Battle to Willie Hayward with 13:20 remaining in the second quarter. QB Leon Camel followed the TD by scrambling for a two-point conversion.
The tandem of the Battle and Hayward would connect again for a 73-yard TD pass, giving FAMU an 18-0 lead with 8:24 remaining in the second period.
N.C. A&T scored their first TD of the game on a Michael Ferguson two-yard run with 6:38 to go in the second quarter, cutting the Rattlers lead to 18-7.
Brandon Colbert’s 17-yard interception return would set up the Aggies second TD of the game, with Herbert Miller connecting with Michael Caldwell for a 33-yard score with 6:09 to go in the second, cutting the Rattler lead to 18-14 at the half.
The Aggies would take a 21-18 lead on a Miller one-yard quarterback sneak at the 8:09 mark of the third quarter.
Then Taylor would tie the game at 21 all on a 43-yard field goal with 2:52 to in the third period, before drilling the game-winner with 45 seconds to play.
FAMU was led by redshirt freshman quarterback Eddie Battle with 259 yards passing by completing 15-of-24 passes with two TDs.
Senior Anthony Edwards becomes the second FAMU running back to rush for over 100 yards in a game this season, as he rushed for 108 yards on 17 carries.
Senior wide out Willie Hayward went out with a bang for his last home game in Bragg Stadium as he finished with 175 yards receiving on nine catches with two TDs, followed by freshman Adrian Smith, who finished with 81 yards receiving on six catches.
Defensively, the Rattlers were led by senior defensive back Ernest Williams with 10 tackles (4 solo, 6 assists) and one and one-half tackles for a loss of three yards. LB Vernon Wilder added eight tackles, seven of them solos including one tackle for a loss of eight yards.
N.C. A&T was led by Ferguson, who finished with 170 yards rushing on 22 carries, with one TD, while Michael Caldwell led the Aggie receivers with 78 yards on four catches with one TD.
