RATTLERS RALLY PAST KENNESAW STATE, 86-79

The Florida A&M Men’s Basketball team rallied from 17 points down at halftime outscoring Kennesaw State 53-29 in the second half, for an 86-79 win Saturday evening at the KSU Convocation Center in Kennesaw. Ga.

FAMU (2-3) was led by Leslie Robinson with 22 points. Akini F. Akini added 16 points, followed by who Oliver Prince who dropped in 15 points in his first game, while Lamar Twitty finished with his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 boards.

KSU (1-5) was led by Ronell Wooten, who finished with a game high 28 points, followed by Shuan Stegall with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Keonte Keith with 12.

The Rattler defense did not allow an Owl field goal until the 17:50 mark of the first half on a Keith three pointer, cutting FAMU’s lead to 4-3.

KSU would then go on a 13-5 run capped off by a Wooten three pointer, giving the Owls a 21-13 edge over the Rattlers with 13:11 left in the first half.

The Owls would then follow with another 10-2 run extending their lead to 37-23 on a Tanner Jacobs lay-up with 6:11 to go in the half.

KSU closed out the first half with a 13-4 run on a Wooten trey with 40 seconds left in the half, for a 50-33 half time score.

In the first half of play, the Rattlers shot 45.2 percent from the floor, while the Owls shot 57.6 percent.

FAMU slowly crept their way back into the game with a 14-2 run, capped by a pair of Ernest Mauls free throws to make the score 62-60 in favor of KSU with 8:29 left to go in the game.

The Rattlers would then take the lead on a Robinson three pointer 70-68 with 4:01 to go in the game.

KSU would tie the game at 70 all on a basket by Stegal with 4:01 to in the game, but Robinson would later give the Rattlers a 77-74 lead on a made three pointer with 1:32 to go in the game.

FAMU outscored KSU 9-3 in the final minute to closeout the game.

The Rattlers finished the game shooting 51.7 percent from the floor, whereas the Owls shot 41.3 percent. FAMU out rebounded KSU 44-36.
