Florida A&M, Morgan State Advance in MEAC Volleyball Championship Tournament

# 1 Florida A&M v. # 4 Howard

Top seed Florida A&M advanced to the semifinals of the MEAC Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 sweep of fourth seed Howard. Florida A&M’s Iva Lakic tallied a match-high 24 kills and recorded nine digs. Jovana Blazeski, the 2007 MEAC Rookie of the Year, posted her 15th double-double of the year with 14 kills and 12 digs. Howard’s Morgan Maxwell and Elyssa Lee led the Lady Bison with seven kills a piece, while Janel James tallied 14 kills in the loss.


#2 Morgan State v. #3 Bethune-Cookman

The Lady Bears of Morgan State topped the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats 3-0 to advance to the semifinals of the MEAC Championship. Seniors Jeniqua Moran and Esther Johnson led the Lady Bears with 20 and 13 kills respectively.

Reina Carson led the Lady Wildcats with 10 kills on 16 attempts.

The Morgan State Bears out hit Bethune-Cookman .338 to .105. They also held the advantage on the defense with 41 digs compared to 21 by the Lady Wildcats.

Florida A&M will meet Morgan State in a semifinal match-up at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Rattlers topped the Lady Bears in during the finals of last year’s MEAC championship.
