Seniors Shalamar Oakley and Rashida Suber combined for 46 points and Coppin State extended its homecourt winning streak to 21 games with a 75-43 non-conference victory over UMBC in the Coppin Center on Wednesday.
Oakley scored a game-high 26 points and Suber added 20 as the Eagles won their second straight game after losing the season opener.
Coppin State's homecourt winning streak is currently the fourth-longest in Division I women's basketball. James Madison has won 27 straight and both Belmont and Marist have won 23 straight home games.
The Eagles extended their winning streak over UMBC to six straight and posted their largest-ever margin of victory over the Retrievers.
Coppin State, which has ranked in the top 10 in the nation in each of the last two years in field goal percentage defense, held UMBC to 23.3 percent shooting for the game and 20.7 percent in the second half.
UMBC, which dropped to 1-2 on the season, was led by Carlee Cassidy who scored 18 points. Morgan Hatten added eight points and eight rebounds for the Retrievers.
The Eagles controlled the boards and outrebounded UMBC 49-36 led by junior Jennifer Martin who posted a career-high 15 rebounds.
Coppin State broke the game open in the first half on the strength of an 18-0 run. Leading by 14-12 with 10:20 to play in the opening period, Oakley scored eight points and Suber added five as the Eagles held UMBC without a field goal for over five minutes.
Hatten trimmed the halftime lead to 38-22 with a three-point basket at the buzzer.
Coppin State led 47-28 midway through the second half before putting the game away with a 14-4 run sparked by six points each by Oakley and Suber.
The Eagles next will see action on Friday (Nov. 16) as they visit 7th-ranked North Carolina.
