MEAC Volleyball Championship Tournament This Weekend

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will hold its volleyball championship tournament November 16-17 beginning at 11 a.m. in Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton (Va.) University.

Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to play in the championship tournament. Seedings are determined by overall conference records. Hampton (2-8), Coppin State (0-10) and South Carolina State (1-7) have been eliminated from tournament play based on their records in MEAC play.

The top northern seed Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks were undefeated (10-0) in MEAC play for the first time in school history and concluded the regular-season with a 20-match win streak. The Lady Hawks have advanced to the championship match three times and are vying for their first conference title.

The Florida A&M Lady Rattlers, the top seed in the south, were unbeatable (8-0) in MEAC play for the 13th time in school history. The Lady Rattlers have won seven of the last eight MEAC tournament championships and 10 overall.

Morgan State won the tiebreaker over Delaware State to earn the number two seed after finishing 7-3 in conference play. The Lady Bears will play the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats on Friday at 1:30 p.m. Morgan State leads the postseason series 3-0 against the Lady Wildcats.

The Delaware State Lady Hornets, the third seed in the north, will face North Carolina A&T, the number two seed in the southern division on Friday at 11 a.m. The Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T were runners-up in the 2005 tournament and are 3-2 all-time versus Delaware State in postseason play.

The MEAC Volleyball Championship begins on Friday, November 16 at Hampton (Va.) University and is free and open to the public.

Two matches start at 11 a.m., as No. 1 Maryland Eastern Shore faces No. 4 Norfolk State, and No. 2 North Carolina A&T plays No. 3 Delaware State. No. 1 Florida A&M matches up against No. 4 Howard, while No. 2 Morgan State and No. 3 Bethune-Cookman face off at 1:30 p.m. Semifinal matches begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The championship match commences at noon on Saturday, November 17.
