Hampton Lady Pirates Stun Georgetown Hoyas, 52-50

 The Lady Pirates hosted Georgetown and were neck and neck with the Lady Hoyas throughout the game, ultimately pulling off a huge 52-50 win.

The Lady Pirates (1-0) led 24-21 at halftime after shooting 44.4 percent from the field and behind the hot hands of senior guard Rachel Butler, who scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the first half.

In the first four minutes of the second half, Georgetown went on a 9-2 run to take a 30-26 lead. However, the Lady Pirates would show just what they were made of with less than eight minutes left in the second half. They would come back from an eight point deficit to regain the lead at 39-38. With three minutes left in the second half, the game was knotted at 42 all. The Lady Pirates would then surge ahead by five points before the dramatic closing minutes.

The crowd was all in it with under a minute-and-a-half left as the Hoyas inched within two points of the Lady Pirates. With 19 seconds left in the game, the crowd was on their feet and the Lady Pirates were up by two. Quanneisha Perry hit a crucial free throw and blocked the Lady Hoyas from scoring again. With 12 seconds left, Butler was on the free throw line, putting the Lady Pirates ahead by four. With two seconds left, the Lady Hoyas were on the free throw line making both shots and coming within two of the Lady Pirates.

For the game, Butler’s 16 points were augmented by Perry’s 13. Chinyere Ukoh led all rebounders with eight.

Georgetown (0-1) was led by Kieraah Marlow and Brina Pollack, who scored 17 and 13 points, respectively. The Hoyas were led in rebounding by Jaleesa Butler, who came off the bench to grab seven boards
