CSU's Oakley Leads Lady Eagles Over Central Florida

 Senior Shalamar Oakley scored a career-high 34 points and Coppin State overcame a 12-point second-half deficit as the Eagles recorded their first victory of the season, 74-63, over Central Florida at the UCF Knights Classic on Sunday.

Oakley finished the game 10-of-18 from the floor and 12-of-15 from the free throw line in tying for the fifth-highest single-game scoring performance in Coppin State history. She scored 22 points in the second half helping CSU overcome a 56-44 deficit.

Oakley scored nine points during a 22-0 Coppin State run that gave the Eagles a 66-56 lead with 1:58 to play as CSU held Central Florida scoreless for over six minutes.

The Eagles also forced the Knights into 11 turnovers during the six minute stretch and 36 for the game.

Coppin State, which improved to 1-1 on the season, also received 14 points and five rebounds from senior Rashida Suber.

Central Florida, which dropped to 0-2 on the year, was led by Angelica Mealing and Marshay White who each scored 17 points.

The Eagles will next face UMBC on Wednesday (Nov. 14) at 7 p.m. in the Coppin Center.
