Whitney Johnson was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Delaware State University’s Sarah Wheatcroft was named Rookie of the
Week.
Johnson (6-3, So., Prince Frederick, Maryland) helped the Lady Hawks
extend their win streak to 15 matches including three conference
victories last week. Johnson recorded 74 kills and 29 digs while
averaging a hitting percentage of .285 in 13 games played last week.
The outside hitter recorded a season-high 30 kills on 71 total attacks
(.268) in a 3-2 win over Morgan State. She followed that performance
with 27 kills and 16 digs in a win over Delaware State. This is the
third consecutive week and the fourth time this season that Johnson has
earned Player of the Week honors.
Wheatcroft (6-1, Fr., Oro State, Ontario) was 16-of-42 (.333) last week
to help Delaware State to a 1-1 mark last week. The outside hitter
recorded a season-high 26 assists to go along with nine digs in a
conference win over Hampton. Wheatcroft tallied 12 kills, seven digs
and recorded five aces against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Chantel Cherry (NSU) posted four blocks (three solo) against Florida A&M.
Iva Lakic (FAMU) was 18-of-32 (.500) in a win over Winston-Salem State
Shaylin Sommer (UMES) recorded five aces in a win over Delaware State.
Erica Tajchman (DSU) recorded a double-double of 10 kills and 11 digs against Hampton.
