MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY FOOTBALL HONORS

Senior running back Chad Simpson of Morgan State University was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week while Hampton’s Sam Pope and Florida A&M’s Michael McMillan earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

North Carolina A&T’s Shelton Morgan earned Rookie of the Week honors and teammates James Key and James Meade of Morgan State University was named the Offensive Lineman and Special Teams Player of the Week.

Simpson (RB, 5-9, 210, Sr., Miami, Florida) earned his second MEAC weekly honor of the season with a 181 yard rushing performance with two touchdowns as the Bears defeated the N.C. A&T Aggies 22-19. Simpson currently ranks fifth in the nation (D-I FCS) averaging 163.2 yards per game and sits atop of the MEAC with 1,037.

Pope (DB, 6-0, 185, Jr., St. Helena Island, South Carolina) recorded four tackles, three solo, and one tackle for a loss. He also posted two interceptions for a total of 96-yards and one touchdown along with a forced fumble in the Pirates win over non-conference opponent Princeton Tigers.

McMillan (LB, 6-2, 218, r-Jr., Irving, Texas) recorded a career-high 12 tackles, all solo, with five tackles for a loss of 17 yards in the Circle City Classic. He also posted two sacks for a seven yard loss.

Morgan (QB, 5-11, 200, Fr., Elizabeth City, North Carolina) threw for a career-high 151 yards, including a 96-yard touchdown pass that resulted in the longest play from scrimmage in school history, breaking a 58-year old record.

Key (OL, 6-3, 325, Sr., Adelphi, Maryland) was a leader on the Bears offensive line as he helped pave the way for a season-high 453 yards, 323 yards on the ground. The Maryland product graded out at 98-percent on his assignments and collected four pancake blocks.

Meade (PK, 5-9, 180, Jr., Upper Marlboro, Maryland) accounted for 10 of his team’s 22 points. The junior converted 3-of-5 field goals, connecting from 33, 27, and 36 yards out. So far this season, Meade has made 8-of-12 field goals and ranks 2nd in the MEAC.

Kevin Beverly (Ham) rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns against Princeton.

Josh Bright (DSU) averaged 46.2 yards per punt for a total of 277 yards against the Wildcats.

Jeremy Breath (DSU) aided the Hornets to 255 yards total offense and graded out at 95-percent on assignments.

Rafael Bush (SCSU) tallied eight tackles, six solo, and three tackles for a loss of 14 yards against the Spartans.

Patrick Brooks (SCSU) graded out at 82-percent on assignments with five total tackles and one sack against NSU.

Maguell Davis (NSU) led a strong all-around defensive effort as he tallied 13 tackles (three solo) and a quarterback hurry against the Bulldogs.

Lucas Esquivel (B-CU) accounted for four of the Wildcats 10 points against DSU as he connected on a season-long 39-yard field goal and the only extra-point of the game.

Michael Ferguson (NCAT) rushed for 160 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns against the MSU Bears.

Willie Haywood (FAMU) caught seven passes for 117 yards against the Rams.

Brian Johnson (How) recorded three touchdowns with 184 passing and 68 rushing yards against Cheyney.

Justin Keable (B-CU) boomed away four punts for a total 163 yards for an average of 40.8 yards per kick against DSU.

Randall Means (How) recorded two solo and nine assisted tackles, three resulting in an eight yard loss in the Bison’s win over Cheyney.

Shaheer McBride (DSU) caught five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns against the Wildcats.

Ronnie McCullough (B-CU) collected a game-high 14 tackles, two and a half tackles for a loss of three yards, against DSU.

Michael Ola (Ham) helped the Pirates to 353 yards total offense and four pancake blocks against the Tigers.

Kelly Rouse (DSU) compiled 10 tackles, five solo, and a sack for a seven yard loss in the Hornets win over B-CU.

Jimmie Russell (B-CU) rushed for 175 yards with one touchdown and completed 7-of-16 passes for 102 yards against the Hornets.

Michael Russell (How) graded out at 98-percent on all assignments as he aided the Bison to 439 yards total offense.

Philip Sylvester (FAMU) rushed for 74 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown against the Rams.

Carol Turavani (Ham) scored six points to help the Pirates defeat Princeton, 48-27.

Lamar West (MSU) had a balanced defensive performance with eight tackles, two sacks for a loss of 14 yards, and a forced fumble against the Aggies.
