Volleyball 10/30/2007 4:00:00 AM MEAC Media Relations LADY AGGIES' CHATMAN SET SCHOOL'S ALL-TIME ASSISTS RECORD Jamie Kaufmann had 13 kills and Ashley Mellott added 12 kills to lead High Point to a 3-0 win (33-31, 30-23, 30-18) over N.C. A&T in volleyball action Monday night from Corbett Sports Center. Despite the loss, senior setter Brenden Chatman broke N.C. A&T’s all-time school record for assists. Chatman surpassed Michelle Spottswood’s 13-year old record in the first game with a set to middle hitter Nyra Taborn. Chatman now has 3,920 career assists and is a two-time second-team All-MEAC performer. “We’re so proud of Brenden,’’ said N.C. A&T head coach Lyndsay Schmiedel. “She has given so much to this program over the last four years. She has shown leadership and a determination to get better each and every, so it’s great to see her rewarded for all of her hard work.” Chatman, who needed eight assists coming into the game to break the mark, took care of the record with authority by registering 12 assists in the first game as she had the Aggies on the brink of winning the game. With the Aggies trailing 28-26 in the first game, Chatman set up Krystal Cooper for a magnificent kill that pulled the Aggies to within one. Chatman followed with a set to Nyra Taborn to tie the game at 28. Sophomore libero helped the Aggies take their first lead of the game with a rare kill for her. But an Aggies attack error tied the game again and a kill by Mellott helped the Aggies regain the lead. Chatman followed with one of her eight kills to tie the game at 30. After Mellott continued the back-and-forth lead exchanges with another kill, Kaycee Anderson slammed down a kill for the Aggies to the middle of the floor. A service error and attack error would end the game and help the Panthers gain the momentum to finish off the Aggies the rest of the way. “For anyone who saw our first match against High Point (earlier in the season), they will see how much we’ve improved,’’ said Schmiedel. “But we still have a ways to go before the tournament.” Aundia Gray also had a big night for the Aggies with 16 kills and three blocks. Cooper added 12 kills, five assists and seven digs. The Aggies return to action 7 p.m., Tuesday when they go on the road to face Norfolk State. It will be the second meeting between the two teams this season
