LADY BISON SHUT-OUT LADY EAGLES, 3-0

Howard defeated Coppin State 3-0 (30-27, 30-26, 30-24) in a MEAC match-up on Sunday afternoon at Burr Gymnasium.

Elyssa Lee tallied a match-high 16 kills and Morgan Maxwell added 13, as the Lady Bison swept the MEAC regular season series and picked up their third win this season over Coppin State, while improving to 5-21 overall, 4-4 in MEAC play.

Coppin State (1-20, 0-8 MEAC) was led by Indira Laurencin, who finished with 11 kills and a team-high two service aces, while Kanishia Sheppard recorded a double-double with 10 kills and a match-high 13 digs. Lauren Lacey and Shawda Wilkes shared the duties at setter, finishing with 16 and 14 assists, respectively.

The Lady Eagles finished with 39 kills for a hitting percentage of .154, while Howard notched 51 kills and had a hitting percentage of .208 for the match. Led by Brittany Arvin’s five total blocks, Coppin State was able to out block the Lady Bison, 7.5-2.0 as a team.

Keri Partridge, Gazelle D’Artois and Janel James all added six kills for Howard, while James added a team-high 10 digs. D’Artois finished the day with a match-high 39 assists and had a match-high three service aces for the Lady Bison.

The Lady Bison return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they host MEAC North Division leader, Maryland Eastern Shore at 7 p.m. for Senior Day. The match will mark the final home match for lone senior Morgan Maxwell.
