Morgan State University senior Jeniqua Moran was
selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball
Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Florida A&M
University’s Jovana Blazeski was named Rookie of the Week.
Moran (5-8, Sr., Brampton, Ontario) averaged a double-double of 12
kills and 10 digs per game to lead Morgan State to their fourth
consecutive victory last week with wins over Hampton and New Jersey
Tech. The outside hitter led her team with 13 kills and hit a
season-high .542 from the floor in a win over Hampton. She added 11
kills and 14 digs for her second double-double of the season against
New Jersey Tech.
Blazeski (6-2, Fr., Belgrade, Serbia) recorded 25 kills and 16 digs in
a win over North Florida and followed with nine kills and 10 digs
against South Carolina State. Blazeski was 34-of-73 (.329) from the
floor and tallied two aces in the two matches played last week. This is
the fourth time this season that Blazeski has won rookie of the week
accolades.
Other Top Performers:
Brendan Chatman (NCAT) posted her first triple-double of the year with
13 kills, 12 digs and 43 assists in a conference win over Norfolk
State.
Julie Gibson (B-CU) averaged 27.5 assists in two matches for the Lady Wildcats.
Aundia Gray (NCAT) recorded 30 kills and averaged a .383 hitting percentage to help the Lady Aggies to a 2-0 mark last week.
Whitney Johnson (UMES) was 15-of-33 from the floor (.303) in a win over Coppin State.
Cassandra Joyner (DSU) recorded 17 kills and 16 digs in a win over Howard.
Elyssa Lee (How) recorded a match-high 16 kills to help Howard to a season sweep against Coppin State.
