Florida A&M junior Alice Izomore and Hampton junior Gabriel Groh were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. Florida A&M freshman Alexis Brown was named the Rookie of the Week.
Izomore (Jr., Lagos, Nigeria) guided her team to a 7-0 win over Savannah State last week. She defeated Courtney Johnson in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the number four singles position. In doubles action, she teamed with Kaithline Durden and won 8-0.
Groh (Junior, Taubete, Brazil) battled back from a 6-3 lost in the first set to win the second set and third set (6-3, 1-0) against Georgia Southern’s Matthew Sands.
Brown (Fr., Eagan, Minnesota) won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the number five position in a win against Savannah State.
Other Top Performers:
Jovanna Sangria (HAM) defeated Georgia Southern’s Jessica Fuller in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) at the number four position. She scored the lone point for the Lady Pirates in the loss.
